Constance Hardbrooms Devotion
By * Céline Hardbroom *

Chapter One: A New Beginning

Star Hardbroom looked rather uneasy as she entered Weirdsister College. A young girl of 16, she was particularly attractive, inheriting her mothers looks but more useful. Being the daughter of Miss Constance Hardbroom (former Deputy Head of Miss Cackles Academy for Witches), who had recently acquired a lecturing job at the College, Star was looked at as being the star pupil.

As she sat inside her dormitory in the Maidens Hall, letting out her sleek black cat Ebony (the daughter of Morgana, who was named after the cat given to Mildred Hubble two years ago for the Rowan-Webb trip. The little cats full name was Ebony Night) she thought about her future.

Constance Hardbroom came in the room with The New Book of Spells and Incantations, Revised Edition under one arm. Hello Star. Oh, how Ive missed you. I know that you spent the summer away to ready yourself for College. She said. Star looked straight at her mother. Mother. Whatever happened between you and Daddy? she asked softly. It wasnt meant to be. It was just an extremely short romance. I just wanted a child to carry on the Hardbroom legacy but I didnt want it artificially done because thats simply not traditional. And that was how I ended up with you. I wouldnt trade that for anything in the world. Miss Hardbroom said, gazing at her daughter who had blossomed into a beautiful young lady before her eyes.

As the two witches headed to the lecture together, they thought about how the two of them had changed. Star noted that her mother was ever so different with her than with the rest of the college. She realized it was because she was her daughter. Constance Hardbroom was a stoic witch, used to tradition and standards. She was highly attentive to discipline. But she really could have a sensitive side. Star smiled at the thought as she listened to the lecture her mother was giving.

Can anyone tell me what Phase-Shifting is and also the purpose? Star? Miss Hardbroom asked. Star cleared her throat to recite: Phase-Shifting is the act of zapping at an object to transport it to another location by means of apparation. She said, nodding to her mother, indicating that she was finished the description. Teachers pet Mildred hissed to another student in the room. Lately Mildred had been bothering the poor girl, and Star had had enough! I heard that, Mildred Hubble! Miss Hardbroom shouted at the girl. Apologize to Star at once! Sorry Star. Mildred mumbled. Just ignore her. Celine Hardbroom whispered to her cousin. How are you able to ignore her, Celine? Shes just said too many hurtful things to me in the past and I dont know how to handle it. Celine pondered for a moment as she wrote notes on the lecture. Its really hard at first and I know she can be spiteful to people who are much more advanced in their studies and I detect a hint of jealousy from her. Celine replied after a moment.

After the lecture, the three witches headed back to their dormitory. Star talked to Celine privately. Do you think that Mother will ever find a person to love? She asked. I dont know, Star. Aunt Constance does detest the male sex. But I dont think that will cause her to resort to lesbianism. I can see thorough her protective shell. She seems to hate all males but she wants a father figure for you and she wants to be loved.

But what about Daddy? I already have a father. Star protested. A biological father, yes, but hes not from a magical family and you need someone who is a wizard. But how to get her to let out her feelings? Star wondered. We need to get her to overcome her male dislike and realize there is a perfect wizard who loves her for who she is.

Chapter Two: Shadowquest

Miss Hardbroom sat in her room in the Maidens Hall, thinking out her lesson plan for the next lecture. Star and Celine were in Celines room, thinking up a plan to find the right man for Miss Hardbroom. Lets seewhat do we have to consider? Celine asked. The man has to have a strong belief about standards, tradition and discipline like my mother. Star replied. But he also needs to show emotion, to get her past this obstacle. Unknown to Miss Hardbroom and the girls, Frederick Shadowquest was entering the college. After proceeding to Thunderblasts office, he introduced himself to Miss Hardbroom, with a little help from Celine. She had set it so that the two would meet in Miserys for lunch.

So, Professor Shadowquest. Will you please tell me about your past in Witchcraft and Wizardry? H.B. inquired. Well, to start off, I was born into a highly magical family and enrolled at Avalon College for Witches and Wizards and soon became the highest achieving wizard in the entire school. Upon receiving my Wizards Extraordinary Matriculation, I proceeded here to Weirdsister and after leaving this college, I assumed a couple teaching jobs, up until now where I have been accepted to Weirdsister as another lecturer. Shadowquest replied. I see. How impressive. Miss Hardbroom said, smirking slightly.
Im glad to hear that Shadowquest said, laughing a little, causing Miss Hardbroom to smile as well.

The afternoon passed by quickly and Miss Hardbroom headed off to see Thunderblast. So, Constance. What do you think of Professor Shadowquest? she asked. He has impeccable breeding and principles. Also a very impressive magical background. Miss Hardbroom answered. Do I sense a hint that you like the young man, Miss Hardbroom? Thunderblast asked. Surely not! Me, like a man? I have neither time nor affections for any males. Suit yourself. Thunderblast chuckled as Miss Hardbroom left the room. Miss Hardbroom was confused. Did she actually like Professor Frederick Shadowquest?
********************************************

Once more, Shadowquest asked to meet, this time after the next lecture. Constance actually found herself saying yes and the two met once again in Miserys. Shadowquest bought drinks for the two of them. As the rest of the day wore on, the two lecturers actually found themselves laughing again. They both loved going over textbooks and lesson plans. They found each other laughing at the others jokes. Shadowquest smiled at the woman in front of him. She is quite into discipline and tradition, he thought, but at the same time, she is quite a beauty. I have just taught both her daughter and niece in the art of Medieval Magic.

Constance Hardbroom looked at the man in front of her. It seemed that he was quite smitten with her but was nothing like Icy. Icy went too quick and it seemed that Shadowquest was taking a different approach. To tell you the truth, Constance was surprised at herself for how she became quickly attracted to him. Stop it, Constance! She scolded herself silently. You have no time for this! She turned to smile at Professor Shadowquest. That was the exact moment when their friendship began, or perhaps possibly more than friendship

Over the next few months of the term, both Miss Hardbroom and Professor Shadowquest prepared the students for their tests. Star and Celine had numerous study sessions with Ethel Hallow, and two of their other friends Honor Moonlight and Lolita Nightshadow. Shadowquest readied the class for tests in Medieval Magic. Jenny Wendle prepared the young witches for Witch Practice lessons, and both Miss Hardbroom and Andy Starfinder helped with Potions and Spells. Star noticed that Ethel was hanging around Nick Hobbes more than Mildred and Cas Crowfeather in their dormitories. Perhaps Ethel and Hobbes like each other, she wondered to herself.

Chapter Three: The Romance

While the College students readied themselves for their term finals, Miss Hardbroom and Shadowquests friendship blossomed into a full-blooded romance. Star, who could sense her mothers thoughts, was thinking that she and Celine had done a perfect matchmaking job.
***************************************
In the evening, Shadowquest led Miss Hardbroom to the balcony where the moon could be seen in all its glorious splendour. This is so unutterably beautiful. The words were heard being whispered from her lips. I knew you would like itConstance. Shadowquest intoned in the same delicate whisper, revealing a blood red rose from behind his back. A song could be heard escaping from his lips:

I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead, uh, huh

Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside

I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night

What in this world
Keeps us from falling apart
No matter where I go I hear
The beating of our one heart
I think about you
When the night is cold and dark
No one can move me
The way that you do
Nothing erases this feeling between me and you

I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night

Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside

I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Is that alright

I drove all night
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that all right?
I drove all night

Constance felt herself blushing as he finished the song, handing her the rose. She tilted her head slightly to sniff the delicate aroma and feel the soft petals against her skin. She blushed again and giggled like a schoolgirl. Frederick touched his lips to her shoulder. You understand what the song is telling you, Constance? he asked. I can guess.
It means I want to be with you forever and help your daughter and niece complete their magical studies. What are you saying? I want to live with you. Frederick replied. Taking a deep breath, he uttered the most magical words Constance had been waiting to hear. I love you, Constance. I have never loved anyone like I love you.
The stoically straight Constance Hardbroom nearly cried. When she looked at him, she saw that he had descended to one knee. His eyes were velvet.

In his hand was a black box, opened to reveal a trinity engagement ring. Each stone represents something. The first represents the past, the second represents the future, and the third Frederick stopped, nearly crying, but continued, represents our future together. Will you marry me, Constance?
Constance gazed into his eyes, her own finally brimming with tears. Yes, Frederick. Yes, I will marry you. She replied. Frederick, slipping the ring on her finger, drew her close and kissed her tenderly. Their bodies nearly became one, with the passion of the kiss. Morgana turned her head to gaze at her mistress with the one she loved.

When the couple came out of the room, they announced to the college, with Star and Celine crying softly. Celine gave her aunt and soon-to-be uncle a hug. Star cried softly as Miss Hardbroom drew her in for a delicate embrace. Professor Shadowquest is going to be your stepfather. Miss Hardbroom told her. You can call him Daddy if you wish. But where does my biological father come in? Star asked. He knew this was going to happen. Hell still be in your life as a close family friend. Hes suggested that Frederick adopt you. But I dont want him to basically disown me. Even though I lived with you all my life, Icy Stevens is the only father Ive ever known. You dont understand the entire issue, sweetie. Hes still going to be your father legally, but so will Frederick.

Star walked off as though in a trance. She went to her room in the Maidens Hall, where Ebony and Stardust were waiting. Miss Hardbroom, Frederick, and Celine werent far behind. Star, sweetheart? Are you all right? Miss Hardbroom asked, coming in with the others close behind. Star buried her face into Ebonys black fur and sobbed. Miss Hardbroom sat on one side of Star, Frederick on the other. Celine sat on a chair in the room. Honey, Frederick began. I understand how youre feeling. You think that youre going to lose the only father youve ever known. But, really, you are about to again another. It doesnt mean that you are loved any less. I promise that I will find some way to make it up to you, Star. Ebony purred and licked her mistress. Star laid her head on Miss Hardbrooms lap Constance stroked her daughters hair. The girl sobbed quietly. Both Frederick and Constance embraced their daughter.

Miss Hardbroom made Star face her. Holding the girls hands, she said something Star hadnt expected to hear: Constance Nightstar Lynn Hardbroom. Constance murmured to her daughter. You have grown up so fast. You succeeded in your first school at Cackles Academy with high honours and role as my apprentice until you left, which began at the end of your first year. Now you have come to Weirdsister College, which happens to be the best Magical Studies College in the world. I am so proud of you and of all your Academic achievements. It would be a great honour if you would be my Maid of Honour at my wedding, along with Celine. I have asked Ethel, Honor Moonlight and Lolita Nightshadow to be bridesmaids as well.

Star was speechless. She sat on her bed after Constance and Frederick had gotten off. She lay on the bed, still sobbing quietly and shaking ever so slightly. Constance knelt by her daughters bed. Starplease dont be upset with us. I didnt think that my being engaged would upset you this much. Maybe we should break it off.
No!! Star exclaimed. The only reason you two are together in the first place is because originally Celine and I wanted it to be that wayIm so confused. I love my biological father so much, but hes not from a magical family, and Frederick is! I feel that if I chose to live my life the way it was before you met Frederick, Id be letting you down. And if I chose to live the way you want to live now because you and Frederick love each other, Id be letting Daddy down (not that Frederick wouldnt be may father). Either way I would fail! Star said, sobbing uncontrollably.

Constance sat down on the bed, gathering Star in her arms like she had done when Star was a baby. Shhhhh, shhhhhh. Youre not a failure, my love. Youre just confused. Youre at a time in your life where you dont know what to do. Either way Id still be proud of you. Do what you think is right. She said gently. Star thought for a moment before answering her mother. I want you to be happy. You and Frederick love each other too much to break off the engagement. I want you two to get married and I would be honoured to be your Maid of Honour with Celine. She replied, giving her mother a hug.
*************************************************

Chapter Four: Wedding Preparations

The preparations seemed to go by quickly. Constance decided that she would still keep her surname. She just wanted to stay as plain old Miss Constance Hardbroom for a sense of self. Gowns were made for the bridal party and the tuxedo for Frederick. Constance wrote out invitations to her family and friends including Icy. Her former Headmistress, Amelia Cackle was supposed to be attending, as well as Miss Bat, Miss Drill, and Miss Crotchet, because despite the way they acted, they had become her friends. A response arrived from her parents:

Darling Constance,

We are so happy that you have finally found the man of your dreams. We know that you two will be very happy together (and we do hope for a grandchild from this union). Star has become a delicate and proper young lady, and we are quite proud to be her grandparents. You were our only girl child and we are sorry for what had happened to your brother and his wife (Celines parents). We know that they will be at the occasion in spirit and that we will feel their presence around us. Your father, whom you were named for, is thrilled to take you down the aisle. We cant wait to see you.
With love,

Constantine and Samantha Hardbroom

My parents are actually going to come! But why did they mention Celines parents? It makes me feel so bad that Celine doesnt take hearing anything about her parents, Constance thought. She turned to Celine who read the note and sobbed. Constance winced as she remembered that fateful incident which had taken the lives of both her brother and his wife (who happened to be an Elf). She put her arm around her nieces shoulder. Celine finally spoke up.

Aunt Constance, will you please tell me about my parents accident? Miss Hardbroom took a breath before recalling: Shortly after you birth, your parents were in a fight against an evil wizard who wanted my brother to join him. But being the good wizard that he was, your father and mother both refused, saying they were never going to fall to the dark side to join an egotistical wizard intent on taking over the world. The wizard, upon hearing their refusal, took you, threatening to take your life if they kept refusing. Your mother was the first to go forward to save you, but was killed in the process. It was only after the wizard had slain both your parents that he left you alone. I was there to see this and I had tried so hard to stop that wizard. That is why I had the strong dislike for males. When the wizard was gone, I took you in to raise you myself with the help of my parents around the time of Stars birth. I vowed to take care of you and to let you know about this when the time was right. Miss Hardbroom uttered the words slowly, seeing her niece break down. The two witches cried on each others shoulder.

Oh, God! This makes me wish I never had been born. You shouldnt think that. Perhaps this would have happened either way. Constance told her niece. Frederick came forward and put his arm around his fiancée. Star was quick to sit beside her mother. She thought about her future with her new family. Constance drew her daughter close. Sweetie, I cannot wait until were all a complete family. She said as a smile spread across her face.
****************************************

That night, Miss Hardbroom awoke to soft crying. She ran out to find out whom it was. She soon arrived at Celines room, where the girl was heard sobbing. Miss Hardbroom rushed inside and went straight to Celine. She gathered the girl in her arms, rocking with her. Constances heart nearly broke at the sound of her precious niece crying. Its all right now, sweetheart. Everything is going to be just fine. Okay, okay. Its okay. Im here now. I should never have told you about the incident, even though you wanted to know. Constance told the sobbing girl while continuing to rock her.

Aunt Constance. Celine sobbed. What is it, baby? Miss Hardbroom asked. Dont leave me I wont. I promise. You never told me the names of my parents. Arthur Hardbroom and Morgana Shadowstar-Hardbroom. Celine smiled at this. Now I know the names of my parents. Thank you, Aunt Constance. She said, still sobbing softly while Constance held her close. The two settled down in the bed and after a little while, were both sound asleep.
*********************************************

The next few weeks were extremely hectic for the entire wedding party and college. Not only did Miss Hardbroom and Professor Shadowquest have to make lesson plans, work on their sorcery skills, and teach lectures, but they also needed to make time for wedding plans. That was one of the things Constance hated most of all - having to deal with the stress of getting too many things done at once.

Star was equally as baffled as Constance was on how to finish everything in time for the wedding. She had to work on her gown, making sure that the alterations were absolutely perfect for the stunning midnight blue gown. She also had to worry about her studies, so she had to make time for sessions with her peers. Celine had to worry about her studies, her gown, and just since recently, her newborn daughter, Wonder Constance Morgana Hardbroom, who since they didnt have a flower girl, would be considered the honourary flower-baby, just so she would be in the ceremony as well.

Star had been hastily working with Ethel, Celine, Honor and Lolita on each others dresses, when Mildred for no apparent reason other than jealousy, began to chastise her for being more advanced than she. Hubble Bubble quit your babbling and leave us alone. Ethel sneered to Mildred. Star nodded to the other girls in thanks and turned on her heel to go find her mother. Miss Hardbroom and the rest of staff were in the staff room when Star marched in. She wore the frown that her mother usually had on her face when something concerned Mildred Hubble. Star, what is it? Constance asked, as she noticed her daughter staring out the window, her arms folded. Mother, why was I born into your family? Star asked. Miss Hardbroom, shocked, stared at her daughter.

Its all because of Mildred Hubble. Shes taunting me about how I am your daughter. Like you having me was a mistake because she thinks that you should never be able to mother a child! Maybe shes right. Maybe I am a mistake Star said, flatly. Dont think like that. Miss Hardbroom told her daughter. If I can, I will try to fix everything, even if it means getting Mildred in trouble. Star nodded slowly, her eyes downcast as she left the room.

Frederick Constance began, turning to face her fiancé. Star seems so depressed. Look at her. She tries so hard to please me, not only as her mother, but because I am the lecturer for Potions and Spells. I know that this is rough for her, but it takes time for Mildred to realize that shes not a bad person, just because shes your daughter, and you just so happen to be the one person that Mildred is afraid of. I just dont want to see her get hurt. Miss Hardbroom said.

Star was too upset by what Mildred had said that she went to her room to take a nap. For hours she tossed and turned, but was too upset to sleep. Eventually sleep overcame her and her eyes slowly began to close.

*********************************************

Miss Hardbroom came into the residence in the Maidens Hall to try and relax, but she soon was interrupted by the sound of a frightened, piercing scream. She race to the location and found Star screaming in terror. The poor girl was completely unaware that her mother had come into the room. Oh my God! Star! Miss Hardbroom cried desperately, throwing her arms around her daughter. But the girl was too upset. She pushed against her mother, attempting to fight the threat she couldnt see. Constance hugged her daughter closer, rocking back and forth with her, whispering soothingly in her ear. its all right, Star. Youll be all right. I promise that everything is going to be all right. Im here now, sweetie. I will not let anything hurt you. Star opened her eyes, crying and trembling violently. Ebony Night had scampered down from her perch and was crouched near her mistress protectively.

Miss Hardbroom gazed down at her daughter. Can you tell me what happened, my love? she asked gently. I dont know Star replied, trembling from the ordeal. You seemed to be having some sort of nightmare. Star was silent. She eventually fell asleep again. I might as well just let her sleep. She needs as much rest as she can, considering what just happened, Constance thought, looking over at her daughter, worriedly. Ebony was now curled next to her mistress. Miss Hardbroom picked up her book and sat down in a chair to read, Every so often, she looked over at her daughter, whose breathing was light and even. She finally looked peaceful but Miss Hardbroom wanted to make sure everything was all right.

*********************************************

Hours later, Star awoke, this time feeling light-headed. Miss Hardbroom looked over at Star and noticed that the girls features were uncharacteristically pale. The girl flopped back on the bed once more, shutting her eyes to try and overcome the feeling. No...no...I cant be getting sick now. Not when theres still so much work to be done, Star thought.
Miss Hardbroom walked over to her daughters bed and sat down. Are you feeling all right, my love? You dont look to good. She asked. Star opened her eyes to look at her mother, but quickly shut them again. Constance placed her hand on her daughters forehead, which felt extremely warm to the touch. Oh, honey. She exclaimed softly. You have a fever. No Star was heard saying. I cant have gotten sick. I still have so much work to do. Im sorry, Star. Thats what has happened. Im afraid that you must stay in bed until youre well. No The determined girl said, getting out of bed, but she soon found that she was too weak to even stand, because Miss Hardbroom had to hold her up.

See what Im trying to tell you? Youre too weak and far too sick to do anything. Miss Hardbroom said softly, easing Star back onto the bed and covering her up. Star sighed softly, blinking. Do you want anything? Miss Hardbroom asked. No. Star said. H.B. kissed her daughters feverish forehead. Sleep. She told her. But Ive already slept Star protested. You must sleep. Its one of the only ways to break the fever. But I dont want to Star protested weakly. Shhhhhhh. Miss Hardbroom said as she performed a sedation spell on her. Star kept protesting until her words finally faded to soft breathing. Miss Hardbroom kept a watchful eye on her. Its the stress of everything. Its too much for her. Her delicate young body cant take it, Constance thought.

Celine came into the room with Wonder to see what was going on. She carried the baby over to her aunt and sat down beside her. Whats going on? she asked puzzled. Star has a fever. It must be all the stress. That has caused her to end up like this. Miss Hardbroom replied to her niece. She then turned to gaze at Wonder. The baby was looking around. H.B. smiled and stroked the babys cheek. Wonder turned her head towards Miss Hardbroom. Celine. May I? Ive missed holding a baby for a while. Sure. Celine said, gently laying Wonder in Miss Hardbrooms arms.

Miss Hardbroom gazed at Wonder, reminiscing what it was like with Star. As a baby, Star had been quick to show her magical powers. The first few weeks of Stars life, Constance had memorized everything about her. Many times she had sat gazing at Star, just marveling at how she had created the delicate little miracle. She quickly snapped out of it. Aunt Constance? Celine inquired. Oh, I was just thinking. I havent done this in a long time. Miss Hardbroom responded, returning her attention to the baby in her arms.

Oh, you are just the most beautiful baby in the world. She cooed to Wonder. Not at all unlike my Star. The baby gurgled softly in response. Shes absolutely precious. Miss Hardbroom said to Celine. Thank you. Celine said softly. Miss Hardbroom turned to look over at Star, who because of the sedation spell, was in a light sleep. Aunt Constance Im worried about her too. The whole situation has been stressful on her, with the classes and all the work adding to it. Celine said in a quiet voice. Miss Hardbroom put Wonder in Celines arms and picked up her book.

I have so much work to do myself, with the lesson plans, the lectures and the wedding. The wedding!! With Star sick, how on Earth will I be able to get everything done?
Ill help, Miss. Ethel Hallow appeared at the door. Im one of the bridesmaids and Star is the Maid of Honour. Or one of them, rather. We need to get Star well. She looks so sick. How could Mildred be so mean to her? she asked. I dont know Miss Hardbroom answered. It will pas. I know Star. She doesnt give up easily. Shell get well for the wedding. Celine said, looking at her cousin.

Time passed and everyone was right about Star being determined enough to get better. The gowns were finished to the exact detail. The day finally came. Stars gown, as with all the rest, was midnight blue with a high neckline, but with butterfly sleeves that fanned out from the elbow to the wrist. Where the neckline met the shoulders, there was a gap sp that the back was revealed in a delicate but modest way. Star came out to show everyone in the dormitory.

Star, you look beautiful! I cant believe you designed that stunning gown! Celine exclaimed. Miss Hardbroom was in her room with her wedding gown on. She knew that it had to be white because white represents innocence. She would rather have had black but she knew that black was the colour of mourning. Her neckline, like everyone elses was high and the waistline was skintight. The skirt though, flowed to the floor. The gown had an almost medieval look to it. Miss Hardbroom came to show the rest of the bridal party, and star cried with joy when she saw her mother, who had the same reaction when she saw Star.

Oh my God! I cant believe how beautiful you look, my love! So this is the gown that you designed. Constance exclaimed with awe. Star twirled to let the sleeves and skirt flow. She then looked at her mothers gown. You look absolutely regal! And with that tiara even more so! she gushed. A knock at the door interrupted them. Constantine and Samantha Hardbroom entered. Mother! Dad! Miss Hardbroom exclaimed. I knew you would come.! I knew it! What, and miss the chance to escort my only daughter down the aisle? No chance. Constantine chuckled, leaning forward to kiss hi daughter. He turned with his wife to look at Star and Celine.

I havent seen you both sine you were babies! And what beautiful young witches you have become. Constantine and Samantha finally got a look at Wonder. Celine took this as her cue. Id like you both to meet my daughter, Wonder Constance Morgana Hardbroom, who is the honourary flower-baby she said. Wonder was dressed in a delicate white satin gown with lace and fake little white rosebuds at the collar. There was lace around the cuffs as well. She even had little booties to match.

Shes just perfect. And the little gown looks so precious on her. Samantha commented. Thank you. Star and I designed her little gown. Celine responded, gazing tenderly at her daughter. Well, I think that the ceremony is about to begin so Im going to get a seat in the Great Hall. Samantha said, giving everyone a kiss as she left. Constantine turned to his daughter. Are you ready? he asked, holding out his arm. Yes. Miss Hardbroom said softly, linking her arm with his. They all got into line and began the procession.

When they arrived in the hall, Celine and Wonder were the first to walk down the aisle, followed by Star, Ethel, Honor and Lolita. Everyone stood as Constantine and Miss Hardbroom appeared. Father and daughter began the walk down the aisle where, at the end Frederick stood, beaming. Miss Hardbroom smiled as she acknowledged Miss Cackle, Miss Bat, Miss Drill Miss Crotchet and Icy. At the end of the aisle, Constantine lifted the veil and kissed his daughters cheek, turning to take a seat. The minister began:

Do you Constance Hardbroom take this man to be your husband for as long as you both shall live? I do. Constance responded. And do you, Frederick Shadowquest take this woman to be your wife for as long as you both shall live? I do Frederick replied. The minister asked them to exchange the rings. As soon as this was done, they were pronounced husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. Frederick tilted Constances face to his, drew her close and kissed her tenderly. Then they kissed again and again and again.

*********************************************

After the ceremony, Constance and Frederick revealed to Star that she had been officially adopted. The three of them hugged. Star felt as if this feeling of pure love and happiness would last forever.

*********************************************

At the reception everyone cheered as the couple was announced. After the perfect dinner, Constance and Frederick danced their first dance together as husband and wife.

I'll paint my mood in shades of blue
Paint my soul to be with you
I'll sketch your lips in shaded tones
Draw your mouth to my own

I'll draw your arms around my waist
Then all doubt I shall erase
I'll paint the rain that softly lands on your wind-blown hair

I'll trace a hand to wipe your tears
A look to calm your fears
A silhouette of dark and light
While we hold each other oh so tight

I'll paint a sun to warm your heart
Swearing that we'll never part
That's the colour of my love

I'll paint the truth
Show how I feel
Try to make you completely real
I'll use a brush so light and fine
To draw you close and make you mine

I'll paint the truth
Show how I feel
Try to make you completely real
I'll use a brush so light and fine
To draw you close and make you mine

I'll paint a sun to warm your heart
Swearing that we'll never part
That's the colour of my love

I'll draw the years all passing by
So much to learn so much to try

And with this ring our lives will start
Swearing that we'll never part
I offer what you cannot buy
Devoted love until we die

After the first dance but before the real party could begin, Star revealed that she head a surprise for the couple and Icy. Music began to play as Star began to sing an up tempo tune, getting everyone on their feet.

Hey now
Hey now

Hey now
Hey now

Have you ever seen such a beautiful night?
I could almost kiss the stars for shining so bright
When I see you smile and I go
oh oh oh
I would never want to miss this
cuz in my heart I know what this is

Hey now
Hey now
This is what dreams are made of
Hey now
Hey now
This is what dreams are made of
I've got somewhere i belong
I've got somebody to love
This is what dreams are made of

Have you ever wondered what life is about?
You could search the world and never figure it out
you don't have to sail all the oceans
no no no
happiness is no mystery and
here now it's you and me

Open your eyes
(This is what dreams are made of)
shout to the sky
(This is what dreams are made of)

Then I see you smile and I go
oh oh oh
Yesterday my life was duller
Now everything's Technicolour

(Hey now)
(Hey now)
Hey now
This is what dreams
This is what dreams are made of

Star sang each note with all the love for her new family inside of her. She gave it all she had. Constance cried as she heard the sweet sound of her daughter singing. At the end, everyone began to dance way into the night.

Chapter Five: A Family United

That night after the reception, Frederick led his new wife to her room in the residence where they began their intimate search to find each other. The two felt whole as they continued to share a tender kiss. Frederick kissed Constance with all the love inside of him. She smiled at her husband and kissed his chest. I love you so much and I want this night to last forever. Constance said, colour appearing on her pale cheeks. Softly and delicately she began to sing:

Under this midnight sky
With you here by my side
There's nothing that I could hide
You know me better than anybody else

All of myself revealed
There's nothing I could conceal
My soul is yours to steal
Take me wherever you want to baby

Baby I'm naked
So naked with you
Feels like the first time
I'm trembling, shaking
My heart's overtaken
Feels like I'm falling
All over again
Baby come and take me
'cause I'm trembling shaking
My heart's almost breaking
Baby I'm naked with you

Whenever you're away
It's almost like I'm afraid
I only wanna stay
Caught up in these stolen moments

So let's lose ourselves tonight
Forget the world for a while
Make love till the morning light
Take me wherever you want to baby

Baby I'm naked
So naked with you
Feels like the first time
I'm trembling, shaking
My heart's overtaken
Feels like I'm falling
All over again
Baby come and take me
'cause I'm trembling shaking
My heart's almost breaking
Baby I'm naked with you

Sounds of pure love and devotion echoed in the room as the two shared an intimate night together.

The next morning, Star looked at her family, thinking that now she finally felt complete. Sure both of her parents believed strongly in discipline, standards and tradition. But Star didnt care. She loved them more than anything in the world. She finally had the family she had waited for all her life. And she wouldnt have it any other way.
